Spider Vein: What is it?
Spider vein is the common name for a skin condition called telangiectasias, which are dilated blood vessels that can be seen through the skin. This problem usually occurs in the legs and hands, but you may also sometimes find facial spider veins.
They appear blue, red, or purple and are in the form of lightning lines or webs.
What causes spider veins?
Spider veins in the legs and hands are formed when the valves stop performing the task of maintaining a one-way blood flow due to weakness or damage to the vein walls. This can happen if you stand for over four hours a day or it can be due to factors such as age, pregnancy, obesity, etc.
The reason behind facial veins is burst blood vessels or high pressure. It can also be induced by external causes like severe damage caused by the focused beam of light from the sun.
